Reiko was the love interest of Secretary Walter Bishop in the Original Timeline's Alternate Universe. As Walternate's most trusted confidante, she believed he was capable of fulfilling his greatest ambitions.

Background[]

Reiko is Japanese-American. Her relationship with Walternate is unexplored. However, it appears to be serious, and a consequence of his estrangement from his wife/ex-wife, Elizabeth Bishop caused by the kidnapping of Peter, Walternate's birth son.

Storyline[]

Walternate admitted to her that he never factored in his love for "the girl" (referring to Olivia Dunham) when he chose to return to the Other Side. Reiko believed he would get his birth son, Peter back. ("Immortality")

Reiko never makes a reappearance after the timeline is rewritten. While Peter was originally raised in the Prime Universe into adulthood, September erased history by allowing him to drown as a child.

In the Alternate Timeline, having never grew up, the war between the two universes were altered. Different choices in the war occurred on both sides.

As a result, Elizabeth and Walternate are still together after the timeline is rewritten. Therefore, Reiko does not appear again, as she is no longer involved with Walternate. ("Back to Where You've Never Been")

She is alluded to in the Season 5 premiere through her potential counterpart's romance with Walter Bishop from the Prime Universe. He states he fell in love in Japan once and "almost married her". ("Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11")

Trivia[]

  • The casting of Joan Chen is among the many Twin Peaks references and Easter eggs the series makes.
